The print of midwives in spain's street names (part two). (English)

Introduction: a street nomenclature somehow reflects the history of the places to which they belong. Names are considered a relevant part of a people's memory and cultural history. Women who have dedicated themselves to helping mothers give birth have been (and are) ever-present in the historic evolution of female care and, consequently, are important and loved for their contribution to society. This is why, despite the disadvantage of women belonging to a male-centered society, which makes them more invisible, we have tried to find out whether midwifery has left its print in Spain's street names. Objectives: to disseminate and enhance another aspect derived from midwifery care: a recognition of their activity towards certain persons in particular or people at large. And to report part of women's history, told by women Method: review of Spain's street guide and on-line posts, searching for the following terms: childbirth midwife, midwife, protectress, comadre, comare, emagin, llevadora, comadroa, parteira, to cover the entire range of national languages and dialects, as these have evolved linguistically, in line with the professional term in Castilian Spanish. On-line search for news related to homage paid to midwifes, childbirth assistants, etc. Conclusions: midwifery is the world's oldest job and has been carried out for centuries by women only. We, as midwives, have acknowledged through childbirth assistants their contribution to history, their added value and sociosanitary/human effort. Childbirth assistants and midwives have suffered a two-fold stigma due to their gender and work outside the family home. In order to achieve effective equality, it is necessary for this nomenclature to change, eliminating this ever-present gender imbalance. Introducción: el nomenclátor de las calles refleja de alguna forma la historia propia de los lugares a los que pertenece. Sus nombres están considerados como una importante parte de la memoria e historia cultural de un pueblo. Las mujeres que se han entregado a la tarea de asistir a las parturientas han sido (y son) personas omnipresentes en el devenir histórico de la atención femenina y, por tanto, personas destacadas y queridas por su contribución social. Por esto, y a pesar del inconveniente de que se tratara de mujeres en una sociedad androcéntrica que las hace más invisibles, se ha querido buscar si existían huellas de la profesión de matrona en el callejero de España. Objetivos: dar a conocer y poner en valor otro aspecto derivado de la asistencia de las matronas: el del reconocimiento por su actividad hacia personas en concreto o del colectivo en general. Y escribir una parte de la historia de mujeres contada por mujeres Método: revisión del callejero español y noticias en red utilizando los términos siguientes: matrona partera, comadrona, madrina, comadre, comare, emagin, llevadora, comadroa, parteira, para abarcar todo el inventario de idiomas y dialectos nacionales y su evolución lingüística, acorde con la profesionalización del término en castellano. Búsqueda de noticias en red referentes a homenajes a matronas, parteras, etc. Conclusiones: la partería es el primer oficio del mundo y ha sido desarrollado durante siglos exclusivamente por las mujeres. Las matronas reconocen en las parteras de la historia, el valor y el aporte sociosanitario y humano que han hecho. Las parteras y matronas han sido doblemente estigmatizadas por su género y por su trabajo fuera del entorno familiar. Es importante para llegar a la igualdad efectiva que el nomenclátor cambie, eliminando el desequilibrio de género tan presente en este. La partería es un bien incluido por la UNESCO en la lista del Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
