- Abstract:
This article explores the impact of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic on children's and parents' time use, academic and socio-emotional skills, and well-being. The authors find that children's learning time decreased significantly during the first school closures, particularly for low-achieving students, but increased slightly with online instruction. Parental assessments of learning at home were mixed, with some academic parents believing it was as effective as learning in school. The study also highlights the importance of age distinctions and suggests further analysis on the relationship between parental time investment and socio-emotional outcomes. The findings have implications for policy recommendations and addressing educational inequalities. [Extracted from the article]
