Deepfakes, AI-manipulated videos, are being used for harassment, scams, and political manipulation. The ease of creating deepfakes has increased with the commercialization of AI technologies, making them accessible to anyone. Deepfakes have been used to create non-consensual pornography, target women and girls, and influence elections. Efforts to combat deepfakes include labeling AI-generated content, watermarking, and legal measures, but these solutions have limitations. Tech platforms may have the most power and responsibility to address the issue, but societal values around privacy and bodily autonomy need to be reoriented. [Extracted from the article]
