- Abstract: Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militia based in Lebanon, has vowed to escalate its fight against Israel following a series of attacks between the two sides. The leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, stated that the group would retaliate against Israel by targeting its positions and killing civilians. The recent missile barrage on an Israeli town and subsequent airstrikes on Lebanese villages have resulted in casualties on both sides. While Hezbollah did not claim responsibility for the attack on the Israeli town, it came from areas under its control. The skirmishes between Hezbollah and Israel have largely adhered to implicit rules of engagement, with civilians not directly targeted and attacks occurring close to the border. However, some Israeli generals and politicians are calling for a stronger response to Hezbollah's attacks. Nasrallah has urged other groups allied with Iran, such as Yemen's Houthis, to continue attacking US or Israeli assets. Both Hezbollah and Hamas, also backed by Iran, have vowed to destroy Israel and are designated as terrorist groups by the US. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in significant casualties and has drawn international attention. A war with Hezbollah would pose a greater challenge for Israel, as Hezbollah is considered the most powerful militia in the Middle East and is believed to possess a large arsenal of rockets and missiles. Such a conflict would also have devastating consequences for Lebanon, which is already facing an economic crisis. [Extracted from the article]
