      Director Pablo Berger fell in love with the characters Robot and Dog from Sara Varon's graphic novel "Robot Dreams," which inspired his animated film of the same name. The film, set in 1980s New York, follows the ups and downs of the friendship between a human-like dog and a robot. The characters were given a "makeover" for the film, with Robot having more square lines and Dog going through various designs for his ears and tail.
