- Abstract:
A study conducted by the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Telangana, India, explores hypertelorism, a condition characterized by bilateral proptosis and hypertelorism. The study focuses on allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS), a common form of fungal sinusitis that results in a hypersensitivity reaction to fungal infection. The research highlights the expansion of the allergic mass, which leads to bony remodeling and involvement of adjacent structures. Ophthalmological complications, such as diplopia and visual loss, can occur when the mass affects the orbit. The diagnosis of AFRS involves radiological imaging and histopathological examination. Treatment options include surgical and medical therapy, with this case report demonstrating successful improvement after endoscopic sinus surgery, oral antifungal medication, oral steroids, and nasal saline irrigation.
