Colonial Orientalism (Knowledge and Power in the Service of Colonial Policies). (English)

This article examines the phenomenon of colonial Orientalism in the Arab world and how colonial powers successfully employed Orientalism as a tool to serve European interests. This is achieved through an introduction outlining the topic and main themes. The first theme discusses European expansion and the role of geographical discoveries in shaping colonial policies during the 18th and 19th centuries. The second theme explores colonial knowledge and its role in reinforcing colonial presence through various institutional and epistemological frameworks. This includes the establishment of scholarly journals, Orientalist conferences, as well as military and political services carried out by professional Orientalists. The researcher concludes by highlighting the prolific production of Orientalist discourse during the colonial era and its scholarly contributions in bridging the gap between new European arrivals and Eastern Islamic societies. The role of colonial knowledge (academic conferences, scholarly journals, military services, university teaching) in cementing colonial rule and bolstering its existence is emphasized, along with the extent of these tools in bridging the cultural and political divide between colonial powers and Eastern societies. The researcher recommends the necessity of conducting serious scholarly studies that investigate Orientalist efforts during the colonial period, analyzing their impact, and elucidating the cultural dimensions that contributed to reinforcing colonialism. The researcher also recommends the creation of specialized scholarly journals focusing on Orientalist issues within academic institutions and university research centers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

تناول مقال االستشراق الكولونيالي: )المعرفة والسلطة في خدمة السياسات االستعمارية(، الظاهرة االستعمارية في العالم العربي، وكيف نجحت الدول االستعمارية في توظيف االستشراق وجعله أداة تخدم مصالح الدول األوروبية، وذلك السياسات االستعمارية في القرنين الـ 18 - 19م، وتناول المحور الثاني: المعرفة َّ األو ُّ ل: الحديث عن التوسع األوروبي، وكيف أسهمت الكشوف الجغرافية في رسم ّ من خالل مقدِ َّ مة تضم ً نت عرضا عن الموضوع، ومحاور رئيسة، جاء في المحور معرفية مختلفة، شمل ذلك إصدار المجَّلت العلمية، والمؤتمرات االستشراقية، َّ االستعمارية وكيف أسهمت في تعزيز الوجود االستعمارية عبر مؤسسات وأنماط والخدمات العسكرية والسياسية التي قام بها مستشرقون محترفون. االستعمارية، واإلسهامات العلمية في ربط الصلة بين الوافد األوربي الجديد َّ وخلص الباحث إلى نتائج تضمنت القول بغزارة اإلنتاج االستشراقي خالل الحقبة والمجتمعات اإلسالمية الشرقية. ودور المعرفة االستعمارية )المؤتمرات العلمية، المجَّلت العلمية، الخدمات العسكرية، التدريس الجامعي(، في تثبيت االستعمار وتعزيز وجوده، ومدى عمق هذه األدوات في ردم الهوة الثقافية والسياسية بين الدول االستعمارية والمجتمعات الشرقية. وأوصى الباحث بضرورة إعداد دراسات وبيان األوجه الثقافية التي أسهمت في تثبيت االستعمار. والعمل على إنتاج مجَّلت َّ علمية جادة تتناول الجهود االستشراقية خالل االستعمارية، والعمل على تحليلها، َّ علمية متخص َّ صة في قضايا االستشراق داخل المؤسسات والمراكز العلمية الجامعية.
