- Abstract:
This article discusses a case of sigmoidorectal intussusception caused by sigmoid cancer in a 70-year-old woman. The patient presented with symptoms such as bloody stools, lower abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and difficult defecation. Physical examination and laboratory investigations revealed tenderness in the lower abdomen, decreased hemoglobin, and a positive fecal occult blood test result. Colonoscopy and abdominal contrast-enhanced CT scan confirmed the diagnosis of sigmoidorectal intussusception with a sigmoid tumor as the leading point. The patient underwent laparoscopic partial sigmoid resection with diverting colostomy and had a successful recovery. The article emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and surgical resection for adult sigmoidorectal intussusceptions, which are often associated with underlying malignancies.
