- Abstract:
A recent study conducted by researchers at the Institute of Medical Biometry and Statistics explored the associations between comorbidities and specific biomarkers in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), with a focus on cardiovascular comorbidities, blood high sensitivity troponin (hs-troponin), and lipid profiles. The study used clinical data from six German University Medical Centres and found that COPD patients with inherited alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) had lower total blood cholesterol levels and fewer cardiovascular comorbidities compared to non-AATD COPD patients. Additionally, the study confirmed that hs-troponin is a suitable predictor of overall mortality in COPD patients. The research suggests that COPD patients with AATD may have a lower cardiovascular risk. [Extracted from the article]
