- Abstract:
A recent study conducted at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) has examined the development and reversibility of liver fibrosis, a serious health problem worldwide. The study found that liver fibrosis is caused by fibrogenic myofibroblasts that activate in response to chronic toxic or cholestatic injury. However, the regression of liver fibrosis is possible when the underlying cause of injury is removed. The study discusses the molecular mechanisms involved in the activation, apoptosis, and inactivation of myofibroblasts. This research provides valuable insights into potential therapies for liver fibrosis. [Extracted from the article]
