    • Abstract:
The study was led in the Al-Sudour region located within the province of Diyala in central Iraq, between latitudes 34° 00ʹ 24.07ʺ-34° 08ʹ 10.04ʺ and longitudes 44°52ʹ 24.76'-45° 12 ʹ 25.34ʺan area of 446,706 km2. The study used a digital elevation model (DEM) for Diyala Governorate to derive Slope maps and Aspact, as well as a satellite image of the Landsat 8 satellite captured on 08/24/2020 to derive a map of land use using the Erdas Imagine program using the supervised classification method. The consequences of the study was showed five categories are vegetation cover, water, buildings, mountains and barren land. They were identified and compared with the 60 land control points, The accuracy of the classification was calculated utilizing Kappa It was 89%. A model was built to choose the best sites for the establishment of tourist forests based on Slope maps, Aspact and land use, giving them weights of 25, 25, 50, respectively. The study concluded to derive a map of the best sites that are suitable for tourist forests in the study area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
