A recent study conducted in Fujian, China, focused on the hepcidin gene in crescent sweetlips fish. The researchers used reverse transcription PCR to obtain the full-length cDNA of the hepcidin gene, which encodes a peptide with 90 amino acid residues. The study found that the crescent sweetlips hepcidin possessed a typical structure similar to other fish hepcidins and demonstrated strong antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria in fish. These findings suggest that crescent sweetlips hepcidin has potential for preventing fish diseases in aquaculture. [Extracted from the article]
