      The article focuses on the history of footpaths and trails in Hawai'i, U.S. protected by Hawaiian royalty in 1892, which have evolved into a network of 500 miles across six islands, include the Alaka'i Swamp Trail, Moanalua Valley, Hoapili Trail, Hāna-Wai'anapanapa Coast Trail and Pololū Trail.
