    • Abstract:
Eli Lilly & Co., a major pharmaceutical company, has announced that it is suspending investment, promotional activity, and new clinical trials in Russia, as well as halting the export of nonessential medicines to the country, due to the war in Ukraine. However, the company will continue to provide cancer and diabetes medicines to patients in Russia. Eli Lilly stated that it has an ethical and moral obligation to alleviate human suffering and protect the lives of patients, and any profit from its sales in Russia will be directed towards humanitarian relief. Other pharmaceutical companies, such as Pfizer Inc. and Roche Holding AG, have also paused recruitment for studies in Russia while continuing to send drugs and health supplies to those in need. Eli Lilly recently donated a significant supply of insulin and baricitinib, a treatment for Covid-19 complications, to U.S. nonprofits distributing medical supplies in the region.
