    • Abstract:
Swedish battery-maker Northvolt AB is constructing a new battery plant in northern Germany to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles in Europe. The plant, called "Northvolt Drei," is expected to produce 60-gigawatt hours of battery capacity annually and begin production in 2025. With this new facility, Northvolt's total battery-cell manufacturing capacity will exceed 170 gigawatt-hours, making it the largest battery maker in Europe. The location of the plant in Heide, Schleswig Holstein, provides access to a clean energy grid with surplus electricity from wind power and connections to Denmark and Norway. Northvolt has secured contracts worth over $50 billion from major electric car manufacturers. [Extracted from the article]
