- Abstract:
A recent study conducted at Chiang Mai University in Thailand explored the effects of finasteride, a medication commonly used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, on left ventricular function and cardiac sympathovagal balance in aging and obese male rats. The researchers found that both aging and obesity were associated with impaired left ventricular function and cardiac sympathovagal balance. However, treatment with finasteride effectively improved these parameters in both aging and obese rats, reducing systemic oxidative stress. The study suggests that finasteride may have cardioprotective potential in aging and obese populations. [Extracted from the article]
