COMPARATIVE RADIOGRAPHIC AND ULTRASONOGRAPHIC DIAGNOSIS OF UROLITHIASIS IN DOGS. (English)
    • Abstract:
Urolithiasis is a significant and common problem in dogs, which requires rapid diagnosis due to possible complications caused by the presence of uroliths. Abdominal radiology and ultrasonography enables definitive diagnosis of urolithiasis and it is an mandatory procedure in animals with persistent clinical signs of this disorder. The aim of this study was to compare the possibilities of radiography and ultrasonography, as the main diagnostic procedures, in the detection of urolithiasis in dogs. The research was conducted in the period from October 2020 to October 2021, where a total of 117 dogs were examined. Radiography and ultrasonography revealed the presence of uroliths in 32.48% of dogs, and most uroliths were localized in the urinary bladder. Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that both diagnostic procedures gave satisfactory results in the diagnosis of urolithiasis in dogs. Native radiography proved to be a better method in the diagnosis of uroliths present in the kidneys, ureters and urethra, but ultrasonography is superior in the detection of uroliths in the bladder. Therefore, the simultaneous application of these procedures is recommended to increase the possibility of diagnosing urolithiasis in dogs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
