Physical Activity, Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors and Design Conditions on the Innovative Wheelchair: Case Study of Elderly and Physical Persons with Disabilities. (English)
    • Abstract:
The objectives of this research were 1) to understand the meaning of physical activity and healthy lifestyle behaviors among elderly and disabled adults, and 2) to find the problems, needs, and design conditions of the innovative wheelchair to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyle behaviors for elderly and disabled adults. The qualitative research design collected data from 3 elderly and 3 disabled adults through the interview. The results of the content analysis revealed that meaning physical activity were the usage of physical capabilities to enforce wheelchairs in various forms of locomotion for daily life and meaning healthy lifestyle behaviors were the state of living life by self, independent living, social participation, occupation for income, and access to services through physical capabilities. Finally, designing conditions of the innovative wheelchair to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyle behaviors for elderly and disabled adults can be divided into 2 issues: 1) competence to stand 2) adaptability for locomotion to responsibility for using wheelchairs in everyday life. The findings are guidelines to design innovative wheelchairs based on behavioral science that is academically useful. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
