    • Abstract:
According to a study by the Household Panel of the AMA, regionality and quality remain important for Austrian consumers. However, price and promotions are gaining significance. The purchasing quantities of Austrian households have decreased in the first half of 2023 compared to the previous year. However, expenses for fresh products have increased. Ready-made meals, frozen fruits and vegetables, as well as cheese, are among the winners in the first half of 2023. Discounters and supermarkets have increased their market shares, while consumer markets and other shopping sources are losing ground. Organic fresh product sales have increased, but the purchased quantities have decreased. Freshness and high quality continue to be the most important criteria in the purchasing decision, followed by promotions. Regional origin, animal welfare, and environmentally friendly packaging are also gaining importance. [Extracted from the article]
