- Abstract: The article "Disaster Preparedness (Part 1): Insights from the COVID-19 Pandemic for Nursing" deals with the topic of "Disaster Nursing" and the importance of preparation and planning for dealing with events of larger scale. Events like the COVID-19 pandemic can have negative impacts on the population and require specific knowledge, training, and research. The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes the importance of proactive preparation and has developed principles for dealing with such events. In Switzerland, the Epidemics Act (EpG) regulates the protection of the population from communicable diseases and enables the development of basic knowledge for their prevention and control. Nursing professionals play a central role in disaster preparedness and response and require specific education and training. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has defined competencies for "Disaster Nursing" that vary depending on the level of education. Nursing has special skills in dealing with individuals in vulnerable situations and is therefore indispensable in crisis and disaster areas. [Extracted from the article]
- Abstract: Der Artikel "Disaster Preparedness (Teil 1): Erkenntnisse aus der COVID-19-Pandemie für die Pflege" behandelt das Thema "Disaster Nursing" und die Bedeutung von Vorbereitung und Planung für den Umgang mit Ereignissen größerer Ausmaße. [Extracted from the article]
