    • Abstract:
The variables that have the greatest weight on extraction efficiency in different scenarios (in vitro and ex vivo extraction, in vivo tissue sampling, or the combination of SPME with mass spectrometry) are discussed. Chapter 5 presents an overview of the different materials that can be used as sorbent phases in SPME, describing their chemical characteristics (essential for their correct selection) and ways of preparation. Whether to preconcentrate analytes, remove components from the sample matrix, or make the sample compatible with the instrument, sample treatment is present in most analytical methods.
