Diseases of the aortic valve block blood flow from the left ventricle to the aorta and the rest of the body. These diseases are divided into congenital or acquired. The aortic valve may show a narrowing (which is the most common valvular disease) which results in reduced blood flow to the aorta or a deficiency that results in retrograde blood flow to the left ventricle. Οι παθήσεις της αορτικής βαλβίδας εμποδίζουν την ροή του αίματος από την αριστερή κοιλία προς την αορτή και το υπόλοιπο σώμα. Οι παθήσεις αυτές διακρίνονται σε συγγενείς ή σε επίκτητες. Η αορτική βαλβίδα μπορεί να εμφανίζει στένωση, (η οποία είναι η συχνότερη βαλβιδοπάθεια) γεγονός που συνεπάγεται τη μειωμένη ροή αίματος προς την αορτή ή να εμφανίζει ανεπάρκεια που έχει ως συνέπεια την παλίνδρομη ροή του αίματος προς την αριστερή κοιλία.
