      The article presents information related to the diagnosis of cerebral dysfunction in early stage of the disease in newborn infants. The author discusses various methods being followed for assessing neurologic function of even the very young child. Regular and systernatic observation should be made for posture, mobility, abnormal movements, resistance to passive movement, tendon reflexes, postural reflexes, and developmental progress. During the first week of an infant's life, his head should be positioned in the midline.
