    • Abstract:
The article reports on the efforts of a team of scientists, working with a project called the University of California Malaria Initiative, on the remote island of Príncipe in Africa to bring cutting-edge genetic science and engineering to fight against the malaria-carrying mosquito species Anopheles coluzzii. It raises concerns about genetic modification against malaria including its risks for the ecosystem, catastrophic consequences, safety and investments in infrastructure.
