    • Abstract:
The article deals with the setback faced by the American motion picture industry's efforts to control the ability of consumers to copy digital television content. A federal appeals court has ruled that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) lacked the authority to impose broadcast flag regulations scheduled to take effect this summer of 2005. The broadcast flag is basically a signal attach to programming that contains info on what consumers may or may not do with that content. The FCC regulation would have required digital televisions and other electronics sold after July 1, 2005 to recognize and respect the broadcast flag's copy controls.
