- Abstract:
Various Orhodox scholars and delegates participated in the WCC study process on moral discernment and in the preparation of the Faith and Order document "Facilitating Dialogue to Build Koinonia". Decisive for the moral discernment in Orho-doxy is the understanding of the revelation of God in its historicity, the triptychon liturgy-eucharist-eschatology, spirituality and the hierarchical structures of the Church. Orthodox Ethics faces special challenges related to the encounter of the Eastern Church with modernity in general, the attitude of the Church towards pluralism and democracy, the presence of strongly fundamentalist and anti-Western voices and an aggressive homophobia in various Orthodox contexts. "Facilitating Dialogue to Build Koinonia" is a hermeneutic tool that may help the Orhodox to better understand the contextual factors related to the approaches of other Churches on morality and ethics, without solving the systematic theological issues that led to divisions, it is necessary for the WCC to create tools for a broader reception of the fruits of the study process.
