- Abstract: A study by the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) shows that the purchase of supplementary health insurance can lead to an increase in hospital stays, especially in the field of orthopedics. This has an impact on healthcare costs in Switzerland, which affect household purchasing power and public finances. Patients with supplementary insurance actually make use of more medical services, especially in the areas of orthopedics and cesarean section. There is a need to eliminate such perverse incentives in order to contain rising healthcare costs. The study provides a general overview of the situation without going into individual medical case groups. [Extracted from the article]
[Extracted from the article]
