Assessment of C-peptide in type 2 diabetes in sub-Himalayan region.

    • Abstract:
      Chronic hyperglycemia, a clinical condition characterized as Diabetes mellitus, is defined as the disturbance of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism. It is a chronic metabolic and endocrine disorder. Connecting peptide (C-peptide) is a cleavage product of proinsulin released from the pancreas. Therefore, C-peptide is a better method for estimating beta-cell function. The study included 200 subjects and was conducted for four months in Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Kangra. The fasting blood sugar (FBS) was analysed using the GOD-POD (glucose oxidase-peroxidase) method and, the mean of FBS of cases was 192.35± 86.99. The clinical diabetes was confirmed by calculating glycated hemoglobin(HbA1C) by sandwich immune detection technique, and the mean of HbA1C of cases was 8.88±8.13. The C-peptide was analysed using the chemiluminescence immunoassay and the mean of C-peptide of cases was 1.37±1.97. The study stated that there was a significant clinical correlation between FBS and C-peptide. Also, there was a significant clinical correlation between HbA1C and C-peptide. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
