- Abstract: Idioms as language elements are the carriers of a country’s language, history, culture and national values, often moving away from their real meanings and taking on new meanings specific to them, expressing a certain emotion, event or situation. Idioms make speech colorful, meaningful, interesting and lively, and their importance in developing speech culture, language mastery and language learning should better be emphasized. V. V. Vinogradov, an important name in the field of phraseology in Russia, contributed to the formation and development of phraseology as a separate discipline of linguistics with his studies. A. V. Kunin who has many articles and textbooks on phraseology, morphology and lexicology is among the leading Russian linguists in the field of phraseology with his methods on the translation of idioms in the Russian-English language pair. The aim of the study is to examine the way the idioms are conveyed into Russian in the novel titled “The Legend of Mount Ararat”, a novel loaded with vocabulary and cultural elements, by Yaşar Kemal, who is a writer in world literature and highlights cultural and language elements in his works. The analysis has been made within the scope of Vinogradov's idiom classification and Kunin's translation strategies. As the result of this study, in order to make the analysis more understandable, the Russian idioms corresponding to the Turkish idioms have been scrutinized word by word (semantically) and from a structural point of view. In the light of the findings obtained, some pattern differences have been revealed by taking interlingual incompatibilities into account. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
Söz konusu inceleme Vinogradov’un deyim sınıflandırması ve Kunin’in çeviri stratejileri çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. Çözümlemeyi daha anlaşılır kılmak için Türkçe deyimlere karşılık gelen Rusça deyimler sözcüğü sözcüğüne (anlamsal) ve yapısal açıdan incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular ışığında diller arası uyuşmazlıklar göz önünde bulundurularak imgesel farklılıklar ortaya konmuştur. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
