    • Abstract:
An alternative to Gareau's view of a sectarian U.S. social science which sends messages to other countries but does not listen in return is that sectarian divisions in the social sciences are primarily paradigmatic rather than nationalistic. The version of social science which Gareau considers to be dominant in the United States is not so clearly dominant as he seems to think, and its proponents tend to ignore other versions of social science in the United States as well as in other countries. Dependency theory may apply fairly well within the more positivist sector of social science, but does not seem to apply very well outside of it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
