      In the book "German History Unbound" by H. Glenn Penny, a new approach to German history is presented. Instead of a history of Germany, a history of the Germans is told, who can be found worldwide. The author argues that this leads to a deconstruction of German history and relativizes hegemonic categories of national history. Penny shows how German communities between the Americas and the Caucasus developed a non-state, polycentric, and hybrid nationalism. However, he emphasizes that his deconstructed history also has some gaps, such as the perspective on the violent deconstructions of German migration and the neglect of the relationships between Germans abroad and their surroundings.       In dem Buch "German History Unbound" von H. Glenn Penny wird ein neuer Ansatz zur deutschen Geschichte vorgestellt. Statt einer Geschichte Deutschlands wird eine Geschichte der Deutschen erzählt, die weltweit zu finden sind. Der Autor argumentiert, dass dies zu einer Entgrenzung der deutschen Geschichte führt und hegemoniale Kategorien der Nationalgeschichte relativiert. Penny legt dar, wie deutsche Gemeinschaften zwischen den Amerikas und dem Kaukasus einen nichtstaatlichen, polyzentrischen und hybriden Nationalismus entwickelten.
