    • Abstract:
This article discusses the impact of the conflict between Cuba and the U.S. on Cuban Americans. On Thanksgiving Day 1999, five-year-old Cuban Elian Gonzalez was found floating in the waters off the coast of Florida. The boat he and thirteen other travelers had been crowded on sank into the Florida Straits. After a series of court battles that achieved international attention, it was decided that Gonzalez's place was with his father. Although their relationship to Cuba remains strong, many Cuban Americans feel that after years of exile, they are no longer completely Cuban.
