      لقد أجمعت الدراسات السردية الحديثة على أن وظيفة الراوي في النص السردي ال تقتصر على سرد األحداث إلى المتلقي ، وإنما يتخطى هذه الوظيفة الرئيسة لينهض بوظائف أخرى مهمة جدا ، وأن هذه الوظائف بحسب رأي (فالديمير بروب) التتحدد في صفاته وخصائصه الذاتية، وإنما تتحدد باألعمال التي يقوم بها وأن الباحثين لم يضعوا عددًا ثابتًا لها، أو التركيز على بعضها من دون بعضها اآلخر ، وإنما اعطوا األولوية لمعرفتها؛ ألهميتها في تحليل النص السردي وفهمه ، وتوضيح سلطة الخطاب المدروس وما يشتمل عليه من رؤى ووجهات نظر .
