    • Abstract:
Although some librarians have recognized the importance of audiovisual materials as sources of information and include them in their collections, few engage in the production of these, except for the occasional teaching aids in librarianship. The audio-visual center at purdue university is an exception and it produces non-print material on all subjects taught, but limits itself to types of equipment that students and professors can operate themselves. Attention is now being given to instructional materials centers in libraries; they will engage in the preparation and dissemination of information. The office of instructional resources at the university of illinois, chicago, is cited as an example and aspects of its work are noted. Centers of this kind require specialists of all types in addition to librarians, from psychologists and educationalists to technicians. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
