Pre and postnatal neurocognitive development. (English)
- Abstract:
The latest research has proven that the infant is not exclusively vegetative, but is born with certain skills, being eager to know the surrounding environment. Specific measures of informational treatment in the first year of life are related to cognitive abilities and show a correlation with the assessment of intelligence in later years. By 4 years old, neuronal proliferation of glial cells, dendrites and synapses are characteristic. After 4 years old, the evolution of the gray matter is quantitative according to the brain area. MRI provides anatomical, metabolic and functional information at another level. Premature birth below 37 weeks of gestation has a negative effect on the brain which has a smaller volume and reduced convolutions, with influence on cognitive capacities, supported executive skills, language. The process of neural plasticity can remedy these deficiencies supported by complex rehabilitation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
- Abstract:
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
