    • Abstract:
The Augsburg Confession of Faith presents all major tenets of Lutheran belief and lists objections to perceived corruptions and abuses in the late medieval Roman Church. Melanchthon, principal author of the document, enumerated the doctrines of the Evangelicals (Lutherans) in a manner so as to emphasize agreements with Rome, while affirming clearly Protestant understanding of the Gospel where it conflicted with the papal position. The reformers presented their confession to Emperor Charles V in German and Latin texts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
