Living in Uncertainty: The Strategy of Pulang Sawal Beach Traders in Achieving Resilience during The Covid-19 Pandemic. (English)

This research departs from the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic has a negative impact on human life in various sectors. In coping with the multidimensional impacts pandemic, community resilience became a major concern. The importannce of resilience is apparent in Pulang Sawal beach trading community. Pulang Sawal Beach, in the Province of Yogyakarta, is one of the tourist destinations that has been indirectly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The impact has touched traders whose lives are very dependent on tourism operations. This article aims to find out how the strategies carried out by traders on Pulang Sawal beach in achieving resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, this research also examines the relationship between the strategies that traders and various possible obstacles that will affect the quality of their resilience. Phenomenological research was conducted by semi-structured interviews with food and beverage traders. The results of this study indicate that traders carry out a series of adaptation strategies to survive. From the strategies that have been carried out by traders, in fact they cannot solve the problems they face. There are unforeseen conditions beyond what traders can do. In the end, traders experience economic vulnerability. The impact of tiered economic vulnerability makes them also experience social and cultural vulnerability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Penelitian ini berangkat dari fakta bahwa pandemi COVID-19 memberikan dampak yang negatif bagi kehidupan manusia di berbagai sektor. Pantai Pulang Sawal merupakan salah satu destinasi wisata yang terkena dampak secara tidak langsung dari pandemi COVID-19. Dampak yang ditimbulkan menyentuh para pedagang yang hidupnya sangat bergantung pada operasional pariwisata. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana strategi yang dilakukan oleh para pedagang di pantai Pulang Sawal dalam menggapai resiliensi di tengah masa pandemi COVID-19. Selanjutnya, untuk melihat hubungan antara strategi yang telah para pedagang lakukan dengan berbagai kemungkinan kendala yang akan mempengaruhi kualitas resiliensi mereka. Penelitian fenomenologis dilakukan dengan wawancara semi terstruktur dengan pedagang makanan dan minuman. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa para pedagang melakukan serangkaian strategi adaptasi untuk dapat bertahan. Dari strategi yang telah dilakukan oleh para pedagang pada kenyataannya tidak dapat memecahkan masalah yang mereka hadapi. Terdapat kondisi tak terduga diluar jangkauan yang dapat para pedagang lakukan. Pada akhirnya para pedagang mengalami kerentanan secara ekonomi. Dampak kerentanan ekonomi yang berjenjang membuat mereka juga mengalami kerentanan secara sosial dan budaya. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
