- Abstract: The cultivation of mango (Mangifera indica L.), is considered an exotic fruit of high quality and highly appreciated by consumers in all places and markets where it is offered; however, little is known about this crop, particularly in the South of Manabí, Ecuador, so this review article aimed to: Analyze the current situation of mango cultivation and give criteria about the prospects of its cultivation in the South of Manabi. For which an exhaustive review of the scientific literature existing to date was made. This document describes the possible origins of the crop, its genetic variability, its biotechnological advances, its uses in human and animal nutrition, its nutritional, pharmaceutical and medicinal properties, and analyzes the main problems of pests and diseases that they affect her. At the end, a reflection is made on the need to study this noble crop, as well as its uses in the plant breeding of the crop, and in human and animal nutrition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
