The article reports that the fight for greater transparency in hospital pricing in California rages on despite the enactment of landmark legislation requiring hospitals to reveal charges for their 25 most common procedures. The lawmaker who sponsored the Payers' Bill of Rights said he has been disappointed with the way hospitals have been complying with the 2003 law and has introduced new legislation, which he hopes will force hospitals to be more consumer-friendly. But hospitals say they are doing what they are supposed to do and that few, if any, consumers or other health care payers are asking to see their "chargemasters," or price lists.
