As Brink and Hollie explain, variousstates have abolished certain types of courtfees and fines, and, in the past five years, 22jurisdictions have reformed laws regardingdriver's license suspensions based onoutstanding criminal justice debt. And as Curry and Maagexplain in their respective pieces, Californiahas been at the forefront: It has enactedlegislation to repeal many forms of feesimposed "for the cost of administering thecriminal justice system", including publicdefender fees, booking fees, electronic monitoringfees, parole supervision fees, workrelease administrative fees, and more.
