Research on the Practice of Civic Education in America Based on the Concept of Change--The Case of "Action Civics" Program. (English)
    • Abstract:
In recent years, due to the concerns about the civic empowerment gap and unequal opportunities for participation, the U.S. civic education field advocates a student-centered, practice-based, justice-oriented Action Civics program. Action Civics goes beyond traditional knowledge-oriented civic education model and is based on theories such as Service Learning, Social and Emotional Learning and Positive Youth Development, with the goal of empowering youth to achieve personal development and social change through equal participation. The advocacy organization of Action Civics has established an Action Civics practice framework based on the concept of change, implemented Action Civics programmes by relying on professional organizations, and established an evidence-based evaluation system based on the expected educational outcomes of the program. In practice, Action Civics program shows the characteristics of focusing on the goals of civic education, actively promoting social solidarity, based on life situations, multi-organizations cooperation, and with comprehensive and diverse evaluation systems.
