Stories of the 20th century and history of contemporary Italy: the twentieth century as an object of study. (English)

The teachings of Stories of the twentieth century and History of contemporary Italy are placed in the chronological span of a century, the twentieth century, in which history and memory tend, unlike previous centuries, to overlap, interpenetrate, often get confused, favoring a multiplication of definitions to label this period. If history, by definition, requires precise research tools and investigative methodologies, it is also true that sources are also affected by this coincidence, placing the new mass media alongside the more traditional ones. The university courses – through multiple tools of analysis, critical evaluation and narration of the decisive moments of "global" and Italian history – have the objective of developing in students the ability to interpret information in the light of the most recent historiographical production and critically interpret the debate on the so-called «public use of history». Gli insegnamenti di Storie del XX secolo e Storia dell’Italia contemporanea si collocano nell’arco cronologico di un secolo, il Novecento, in cui storia e memoria tendono, diversamente dai secoli precedenti, a sovrapporsi, compenetrarsi, spesso confondersi, favorendo un moltiplicarsi di definizioni per etichettare questo periodo. Se la storia, per definizione, richiede precisi strumenti di ricerca e metodologie d’indagine, è vero, altresì, che anche le fonti risentono di questa coincidenza, affiancando a quelle più tradizionali i nuovi mass media. I corsi universitari – tramite molteplici strumenti di analisi, di valutazione critica e di narrazione dei momenti decisivi della Storia “globale” e italiana – hanno l’obiettivo di sviluppare negli studenti la capacità di interpretare le informazioni alla luce della più recente produzione storiografica e di interpretare criticamente il dibattito sul cosiddetto «uso pubblico della Storia».
