The article explores the vicissitudes of a Bangladeshi woman migrant's life in Monica Ali's novel "Brick Lane," focusing on the entrapment, quest for agency and freedom and transformation of the heroine Nazneen. It analyzes nature of a migrant Bangladeshi woman and the social and cultural structures in which Nazneen was born, raised and emigrated using Judith Butler's concepts of performativity and precarity and the metaphor of a flat in the London borough of Tower Hamlets in England.
