From Latin America to Hollywood. Reflections on the Transnational Remake.

The objective of this work is to carry out a comparative analysis of both textual and contextual adaptation of what has been called a transnational remake, in two case studies of Latin American productions, adapted in Hollywood, the so-called capital of cinema. On textual analysis, we make sequence analysis about construction and reconstruction of spaces and personal spaces; on the context level, we address the chain of production, distribution and, exhibition. We study the tension between the transnational and the national categories that find links and differences between the cinematographic (the discursive, aesthetic or, stylistic) and the extra-cinematographic (the ideological, economic or historical). Finally, we find some indications that explain the economy field and the “cultural translation” in where has to be a safe production ground like the transnational remake. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El objetivo de este trabajo es realizar un análisis comparativo tanto de adaptación textual como contextual de lo que han llamado remake transnacional, en dos estudios de caso de producciones latinoamericanas que fueron adaptadas en Hollywood, la llamada capital del cine. En la escala del análisis textual ejecutamos análisis de secuencias y nos detenemos en la construcción y reconstrucción de los espacios y los personales; en la contextual abordamos la cadena de producción, distribución y exhibición. Implícitamente estudiamos la tensión entre lo trasnacional y lo nacional que encuentra vínculos y diferencia entre lo cinematográfico (lo discursivo, estético o estilístico) y lo extra cinematográfico (lo ideológico, económico o histórico). Finalmente encontramos algunos indicios que explican el fracaso económico y de “traducción cultural” en un terreno de producción aparentemente seguro como el del remake transnacional.
