The present work by Qiu Kuanyong examines the discursive construction of terrorism in German and Chinese media. The newspapers Die Welt and Süddeutsche Zeitung in Germany, as well as the People's Daily in China, are analyzed. The results show that the perception of terrorism in German media has changed after the attacks of September 11, 2001, and terrorism is defined as a communication strategy. In Chinese media, terrorism is discussed as a threat to stability, and the fight against terrorism by the US and Europe is portrayed as self-serving. The work provides insight into the differences between the two countries and allows for a deeper understanding of the Chinese terrorism discourse. [Extracted from the article]

Die vorliegende Arbeit von Qiu Kuanyong untersucht die diskursive Konstruktion von Terrorismus in deutschen und chinesischen Medien. Dabei werden die Zeitungen Die Welt und die Süddeutsche Zeitung in Deutschland sowie die People's Daily in China analysiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Wahrnehmung des Terrorismus in den deutschen Medien sich nach den Anschlägen des 11. September 2001 verändert hat und der Terrorismus als Kommunikationsstrategie definiert wird. In den chinesischen Medien wird Terrorismus als Gefahr für die Stabilität verhandelt und der Kampf gegen den Terrorismus der USA und Europas als eigennützig dargestellt. Die Arbeit bietet einen Einblick in die Unterschiede zwischen den beiden Ländern und ermöglicht eine vertiefte Kenntnis des chinesischen Terrorismus-Diskurses. [Extracted from the article]
