Liberalism or Barbarism: Claude Lefort and the French Discussion on Totalitarianism. (English)
- Abstract:
In contemporary debates on the theory of democracy, Claude Lefort is regarded as a central spokesman for progressive and left-wing theoretical approaches. In contrast to this one-sided presentation, we analyze Lefort's libertarian thought within his criticism of Marxism and totalitarianism. Following an intellectual-historical framework, we problematize Lefort's rootedness in a liberal French tradition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
