Objective assessment of pathologic skin scars. (English)
- Abstract:
Background: Pathologic scars form as a result of aberrations of physiologic wound healing following any insult to the deep dermis. By causing pruritus, pain and contractures, excessive scarring can dramatically affect a patient's quality of life. Pathologic scarring affects millions of people worldwide. Quantitative and qualitative measurement modalities are needed to effectively evaluate and monitor treatments. Methods: The literature on available tools used to objectively characterize scar was reviewed. Results: We describe the attributes and deficiencies and usability of each tool. Conclusion: An optimal, universal scar scoring system is needed in order to better characterize, understand and treat patients with pathologic scarring. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
- Abstract:
Rezultati: Opisane so prednosti, slabosti in uporabnost posameznih orodij. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
