    • Abstract:
Since the Kremlin made arguments from the historical past the main justification for aggression against Ukraine, it is important to study the connection between historical policy and the security policy of the Russian Federation. The purpose of the article. Recreate the image of an independent Ukraine in the Russian political vision, highlight the process of interaction of the historical policy of the Russian Federation with security policy through the dominance of military themes and show the use of history as a component of the anti-Ukrainian policy of the Kremlin and an argument for the legitimization of aggression against Ukraine. It was concluded that with the emergence of independent Ukraine as a result of the collapse of the USSR, Russia did not perceive it as a «real state». With the coming to power of V. Putin, a course was taken to restore the geopolitical dominance of Russia, in which Ukraine occupied a key place. In Putin’s Russia, history and historical memory are given great political importance. Great-power political practices were legitimized by historical arguments, and historical politics became an important part of Russia’s security policy. It was securitized and militarized and turned into an element of the Kremlin’s manipulative activity and justification of Russian aggression against Ukraine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
