- Abstract:
In the present literature review the author describes the occurrence, etiology, clinical findings, pathology, diagnostics, therapy and especially the patomechanism of proliferative enteropathy in pigs caused by Lawsonia intracellularis. Proliferative enteropathy is common in finishing pigs worldwide and as it is an economically significant swine disease, it is essential to have an up-to-date knowledge about the illness. The pathogen of the disease is an obligate intracellular bacterium, which can cause thickening of the intestinal epithelium due to enterocyte proliferation and often referred as ileitis. The major clinical signs of the illness include mild to severe diarrhea, anemia and sudden death of the infected animals. In the subclinical form of the disease poor performance and growth of the infected animals can be detected. The pathomechanism of the disease is widely studied, but still not well-understood. Former studies showed that about 12 hours after oral infection, bacteria enter the intestinal cells, and they can be found mostly in the apical cytoplasm of crypt enterocytes. The bacterium organism may have an influence on the G1 phase of the host cell cycle and cause proliferation of the infected enterocyte. As the consequence of the proliferation, the typical clinical symptoms occur. As this bacterium is an obligate intracellular pathogen, the culture of it is not possible on normal culture medium, only on living cell culture. Therefore, the most common way to detect the Lawsonia from infected pigs is PCR method. Based on literature data there are some antimicrobial agents, which could be effective against Lawsonia, and these are for example tylosin, tiamulin, tylvalosin, linkomycin, tetracycline. For preventing the clinical sings of the disease both attenuated and inactivated vaccines are available in Hungary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
- Abstract:
A szerző jelen irodalmi összefoglalóban ismerteti a sertések Lawsonia intracellularis okozta proliferatív enteropathiájának előfordulását, kóroktanát, klinikai tüneteit, patológiáját, diagnózisát, kezelési lehetőségeit és kiemelkedő részletességgel annak kórfejlődését. A betegség, amelyet gyakran ileitisnek neveznek, a világ hízósertés-állományának nagy részében előforduló, hasmenéses tüneteket, ill. hirtelen elhullást okozó fertőző betegsége. Mivel a fertőzés az egyik legelterjedtebb, ezáltal gazdaságilag is jelentős károkat okozó sertésbetegség, így elengedhetetlen a kórképpel kapcsolatos ismeretek rendszeres frissítése.
