      Experts in lightning and surge protection met at the company Dehn SE in Neumarkt to discuss news in lightning protection research, standardization, and practice. The importance of grounding systems was emphasized as a fundamental measure for protection against indirect contact. Various standards apply to lightning and surge protection, such as DIN 18014, DIN VDE 0185-305, DIN VDE 0100-443, DIN VDE 0100-534, and VDE-AR-N 4100. In connection with the energy transition, additional rules must also be observed for hydrogen generation and injection systems. The article deals with the normative requirements for the protection of hazardous areas and PV and battery systems. It is emphasized that the rapid establishment of a reliable and secure charging infrastructure is a basic requirement for the success of electromobility in Germany. Grounding, lightning, and surge protection concepts are of great importance in this regard. Various standards and requirements for grounding systems and surge protection devices are mentioned, which must be observed depending on the application. Other topics of the conference included grounding systems, protection solutions for PV and battery storage systems, and the protection of technical building equipment. [Extracted from the article]
